Blue Heron Farm 25th Anniversary

Luther

Blue Heron Farm's Luther

Luther is quite a story. Over 3 years ago, both Norma and I would periodically get fleeting glimpses of a dark brown cat that looked like a Seal Point Siamese in and around our barns. We called around the area, but no one reported that they were missing a Siamese. For the longest time, neither of us could get anywhere near him; he would be in the barns for a few days, and then would vanish for weeks at a time or longer. Over time, he kept coming back, and became more and more approachable, eventually letting Norma get close enough to put out a bowl of cat food for him. Around this time, she named him, and started talking to him and using his name. One day, while she walked by him as he was sitting on a large container of goat grain, he reached out with his paw and touched her. No claws, just a gentle touch that seemed to say "touch me back", which she did. Well, since that time, he has become the most loving "feral cat" we have ever seen. Our friendship reached a point where we could gather him up and take him to the vet for all his shots, and to get treatment for an ear mite infestation that was bothering him. Now, Luther, while still living in the barns, will come up to just about anyone and ask for affection.
